About Chef William Wong:

Chef William Wong's career spans more than three decades, a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for the art of Chinese cuisine. His journey began in the humblest of settings, working in restaurant kitchens, where he chopped vegetables and meat from the early hours of the morning to late at night. He's a self-made chef who climbed the ranks of the restaurant business through hard work and dedication.

Along his journey, Chef Wong not only mastered the art of cooking but also became an inspiration and mentor for other aspiring chefs. William has trained many successful chefs and business owners, including the chef behind acclaimed Austin restaurants Lin and Qi. Over his career, he has generously shared his wealth of knowledge and experience, nurturing talent and shaping the future of Austin’s culinary scene.

However, like many in the hospitality industry, Chef Wong faced an unprecedented challenge with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, the previous New Fortune restaurant on Lamar, a cherished embodiment of his lifelong dreams and investments, felt the impact deeply and was forced to close. Yet, amidst adversity, Chef Wong's commitment and drive remained strong, and New Fortune 2 was born.

Outside of the kitchen, William lives with his wife and two children in Austin where he enjoys gardening and fishing. His dedication to his craft drives him to also spend time traveling the world to sample international cuisines to build his knowledge and repertoire as a chef.

Today, Chef William Wong continues to delight diners with his creations, each dish bearing the unmistakable imprint of his passion and dedication. Join us at New Fortune 2, where each dish tells the story of his journey from chopping vegetables to becoming a respected chef.
